I, and a few of my closest friends, are shooting for the Catskills 3500 club. Those wishing to become members of the Catskill 3500 Club must climb all 35 Catskill High Peaks, and in a departure from the requirements of most other such clubs, climb Slide, Blackhead, Balsam and Panther mountains again in winter. The Club's by-laws define “winter” as the period from December 21 to March 21, inclusive, regardless of the actual occurrences of the winter solstice and vernal equinox in particular years.

So this weekend, we knocked off peak #3 in the Catskills - Slide Mountain. It ranks as the highest peak in the Catskills, and was overall a moderately challenging hike.

A year ago today, 6 of my friends and I hiked Mount Washington - 6,288 feet of intense hiking, in crappy weather, just to reach the summit and not even see the building.
